The Process: Design

Initial visit - free of charge

I will come to meet you and see your garden. We'll chat through which design service you need and your plans for the garden.

Quoting for design work

This will detail the various steps within the design process that you require and my associated fees. On agreement of the quote we will arrange my first formal consultation and site analysis.

Consultation and site analysis

Using images for guidance, we will discuss your vision for the garden including your likes and dislikes, priorities and preferences in both garden style and plantings. As a result of this consultation we will establish your garden design brief. I will analyse the garden site including testing soil pH, soil texture, drainage and aspect. I'll also measure the garden or patio space to create the site survey.

Time to Design

The design process involves a number of steps and, dependant on your specific design needs, I will present some or all of the following: concept plans, mood-boards, presentation plans, elevation drawings and planting plans. At every step of the way you will be involved in decision making so that the finished design will be a true realisation of your ideal garden space.

Time to Plant/Design Implementation

Once it comes to the actual planting up of the design, I can provide different levels of service as required. These include sourcing the new plants for you, hand choosing from specialist nurseries so you can be assured on the quality and health of your new plants, then, depending on the scale of your new plantings I can either plant the new design myself or, if it's a larger job,  I can oversee/consult with another gardener/ gardening team of your choosing.

‘It was a great pleasure to have Helene design our garden from scratch. We were not knowledgeable on where to start and she was so professional and patient walking us through her suggestions and taking into consideration our lifestyle and preferences. She shared with us some good guides on caring for our new plants and has been so helpful when we’ve had doubts or questions along the way. Helene is so creative and we love her environmentally friendly and sustainable approach to gardening.’

The Process: Gardening Consultation and Paired Gardening

Initial visit - free of charge

I'll come to meet you and see your garden. We'll chat through what you would like to get from the consultation service, whether it be a tailored maintenance plan, a one off paired gardening visit or regular paired gardening sessions across the year.

Quoting for consultation and/or paired gardening

This will confirm the level of consultation you're interested in and outline costs for you to review.

Initial consultation including garden assessment/site analysis

We'll have a more formal discussion to outline the key goals for your garden and what you would particularly like to gain from the paired gardening sessions. Together, we'll walk through your outdoor space and assess the gardening jobs that need to get done to reach your goals. We can do soil ph testing, assessing drainage and soil structure if required and I will write up a maintenance plan for you at this point if requested.

Time to Garden- Together

Time to get the gloves on and get gardening together. In each session we'll chat through what needs doing and then either do those jobs together to completion or we can get started on a job for you to complete in your own time. I'm there to answer any questions and help you make ongoing plans for your garden space.

Follow up Information

After each paired gardening session I'll send through a follow up summary of the jobs that we did together. I'll include further advice on any questions raised as well as advice on sourcing anything that we may have discussed such as new plants or new tools.

‘Working with Helene on my garden was an absolute pleasure, she really took the time to understand my garden and what I hoped for the space.

It was a collaborative process and I loved that alongside new ideas and plants Helene also thought of how to preserve the plants that were already happy and established.

She gave really practical watering and plant care tips and designed a maintenance plan that is going to help me care for the new plants year after year.
