About

'Helene has a great passion for gardens and horticulture. She is knowledgeable about the best plants for a London garden and works extremely hard. My garden looks great and I would heartily recommend her.'

What being an Urban Tree Hugger is all about

My name is Helene and my passions are horticulture, nature and the environment. I believe that plants have the power to make us happy and increase our quality of life. From a small pot on the window sill to a large rambling rose scrambling over a shed, plants enhance our connection with the seasons and the natural world and can give us moments of calm reflection.

As a child growing up in Australia I spent most of my free time in the garden, perched in our Liquidamber tree or foraging amongst the vegetable beds. But it wasn't until I started transforming my own garden here in London that I realised plants and gardening were more than just a hobby for me, they were an obsession.
I have since trained through Capel Manor College in Regents park, gaining City and Guilds, RHS and Garden Design qualifications, polishing my knowledge and skills in horticulture and garden design.

I now work as a full time gardener specialising in small London gardens and bring my knowledge and my passion for plants and nature to my clients' gardens.
I am an organic gardener: I don’t use chemicals and my aim is to work with nature, not against it, to make gardens healthy, bountiful and beautiful.

Alongside my maintenance work I also provide a garden design service, particularly focusing on small urban spaces including garden beds, patios, balconies and courtyards.

I also now provide a garden consultation service with the option for a 'paired gardening' approach. This is for clients who would like to learn more about gardening and how to look after their gardens themselves. Through working together and giving tailored advice I give people confidence in their own gardening skills and facilitate a deeper connection with their own gardens.

I believe that gardens are all about the people who use and enjoy them. Whether you want your garden to be an entertaining space, a calm oasis from the city, a wildlife friendly celebration of nature or a mixture of all of these and more, my aim is to help make your garden the beautiful environment that you want it to be.
